The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the living room as Maya settled onto the plush sofa. A gentle breeze drifted in through the open window, carrying with it the scent of freshly cut grass. She stretched, her muscles loose and comfortable after a long yoga session. A soft sigh escaped her lips as she reached for the remote, intending to flip through channels. Her partner, Liam, was out at the hardware store, supposedly getting supplies for a new bookshelf he'd been planning.

Later, she found it. Tucked away on his laptop, a document titled "Project: Lavender Fields." Curious, she clicked. The first line of the manuscript read, "Eleanor was a study in contrasts..." Eleanor, her name. A warmth spread through her chest, a pleasant surprise rather than any alarm.
